About this course

A comprehensive elderly-care assistant program covering respectful person-centred care, body systems, common health problems, mental health, medication assistance, nutrition, hygiene, post-operative support, emergencies, caregiver wellbeing, ethics, law and supervised clinical competencies.

Learning outcomes

Provide safe, respectful and compassionate assistance to older adults. Recognize and report common physical and psychological changes. Assist appropriately with mobility, hygiene, nutrition and daily living. Monitor and document basic health observations within the caregiver role. Support safe medicine routines without exceeding authorized scope. Respond appropriately to falls, choking, breathing difficulty and chest pain. Apply consent, dignity, confidentiality, safeguarding and legal responsibilities. Protect caregiver wellbeing and use family and community support systems.

Who this is for

Matric-qualified learners with Bio Science seeking elderly-care work in homes, hospitals, community programs, NGOs, hospices or care centres.

Eligibility

Matriculation with Bio Science, as required by the supplied NAVTTC syllabus. Documentary evidence requires admissions review.

Prerequisites

Ability to participate safely in simulation and instructor-reviewed practical demonstrations. Clinical procedures must remain within the learner’s authorized role and local requirements.
