You are not responsible for another person's abuse

Bullying and harassment can be verbal, physical, sexual, social or online. Discrimination may target gender, disability, poverty, ethnicity, religion, displacement or another part of a person's identity.

Prioritize safety

  • Move toward a safer place or trusted person.
  • Do not meet someone alone when threats have been made.
  • Preserve messages, screenshots, dates, names and witnesses.
  • Report through a trusted school, workplace, safeguarding or legal channel.
  • Seek medical attention after physical or sexual violence.

If someone discloses abuse

Listen calmly, believe them, avoid blame and do not force details. Explain that safety concerns may need to be shared with an appropriate adult or professional. Do not publicly identify a survivor.
