What self-care means

Self-care includes practical actions that support health and wellbeing. It can help a person recover from ordinary stress and maintain healthy routines. It is not a substitute for professional treatment, prescribed medicine or emergency support.

Build a balanced routine

Physical wellbeing

  • Regular meals and water
  • Consistent sleep
  • Safe physical activity
  • Medical care when needed

Emotional wellbeing

  • Name your feelings
  • Journal or reflect
  • Take healthy breaks
  • Practise self-kindness

Social wellbeing

  • Stay connected
  • Ask for help
  • Set respectful boundaries
  • Spend time with supportive people

Digital wellbeing

  • Take screen breaks
  • Mute harmful content
  • Avoid constant comparison
  • Protect your privacy

Seven-day wellbeing check

For seven days, briefly record your sleep, meals, movement, mood, one enjoyable activity, one supportive connection and any help you need. Look for patterns without judging yourself.

When self-care is not enough

Professional support may be needed when distress continues, becomes more severe, interferes with daily life or creates a safety concern. Self-care and professional support can be used together.
